2 recent movie/DVD
since I'm a GV member, I have a 1-for-1 voucher during my birthday month. We decided to watch Changeling and it was good! Well, I'm no fan of Angelina Jolie (I'm more on Jenn's side haha) but I don't really choose movies based on the stars. so.

O and I saw the trailer long ago and he told me to rent this DVD. It was good, too! Well, there aren't many remarkable movies nowadays, are there?

CNY was so-so, nothing much at all. My mind is too preoccupied by many things to feel festive!

oh and i almost forgot
to blog about my birthday this year..
well i was in Phuket and i unexpectedly received so many SMS-es, so happy!
i had to delay thanking them until like 11pm when i was back to Singapore.

on 11 Jan sis celebrated Kayla's 1st month bday and some of our frens wished me a happy belated bday.

Grandparents went to sis' place in the late afternoon and grandma actually bought me a cake hee hee she said bday must have a cake one..

That evening we had dinner with them, Kayla went too, all wrapped up like a pupa (kepompong) coz it's cold at the mall hee hee

i bought her the pink "jumpsuit" for xmas (actually it's her dad's xmas gift from me haha) even though i dun necessarily agree with that sentence but it's just too cute!
bought another one that says "my mummy is yummy" but it's pastel green with some pink lining and it's only a top so this is cuter

1st experience
Today was another volunteering day arranged by TBS colleague. This time round is by choice, meaning not for the whole company but only those who signed up.

It was to bring 20 elderly people for an outing to Chinatown plus a vegetarian tea at the temple.
They are all wheelchair-bound. My 1st experience pushing someone on a wheelchair.
The elderly people are residents of Kwong Wai Shiu hospital and nursing home.

My charge was from the day care centre, he comes every morning and goes home at 5pm.
He's bigger than the rest, he kept saying "you're so strong" coz I had no problem pushing him around the whole afternoon (well, some minor problem coz 1st time plus some obstacles along the way).

It's very easy to grow fond of him. The way he held my hands in a very appreciative manner towards the 2nd half of the outing really touched my heart. I'm really glad to know that he's a day care patient (he was the only one out of the total 20) and not from the nursing home. He can actually walk, but this kinda outing is too tiring for him. He's 90 years old but looks 70ish.

It's a pity I don't speak dialects. I've been wanting to do this kinda volunteering but other than the fact that I might not be able to commit certain number of hours of volunteering or do regular visits, the language barrier always put me off.
The uncle can speak a bit of Mandarin, English and Malay so we communicated OK (he's actually a Teochew but he can also speak Hokkian but of course I don't understand either).
After his son picked him up (today was later, we only reached back at almost 6pm and he borrowed my hp to call his son), I helped pushed another elderly man back to his room/ward (he looks young, I think he's the youngest among them, maybe only in his 60s). To us, it looks like a really sad and depressing condition. I saw it on TV before, it's a very big room with many people on their own beds. That gets me thinking, if I come to visit (to befriend) an elderly, doesn't it make others jealous? But I'm sure one person is not capable of visiting everyone on a regular basis, right?

I'm really thankful to TBS for all these volunteering activities.
Honestly, I'm kinda scared to be wanting to visit them (the elderly and the children from the Xmas gathering that time at the Beyond social services) because I might not be able to commit a regular visit for now. I really hope once things are settled, I can do so. Or that I can do any kind of volunteering regularly (more regularly than arranged by TBS...)

At last, something!
I've been chosen to go to East Timor Playscheme (by Children on the Edge), from 29 Mar to 9 Apr'09.
It was quite a long wait (1 year?) as I've blogged before.

It still seems like a daze, but soon I have to start planning for fund-raising activities.

Any donation is welcome!!

focus.prioritize.sacrifice for a better outcome!

That's my goal for 2009.
Yeah kinda slow, but I didn't even feel the Xmas spirit, 2008 was over just like that..

oh and also: lose weight AND maintain it.
Maintaining is always the hardest part!!

ochlophobia
Main Entry: ochlophobia
Part of Speech: n
Definition: a fear of crowds, masses, or people; also called demophobia
Etymology: Greek ochlos 'crowd'

The above definition is from dictionary.com

Well, I'm not exactly having phobia of crowds, but I certainly hate it to the brim!!!!!

I don't know if this is the hormones talking (err, PMS-ing now), but this morning the train was so crowded even at Lakeside (yeah, what's new, right? But today was EXTREMELY more crowded than usual). A b*tch reading magazine kept poking the magazine to the back of my neck *growl*. I tried to shoo her with my super big bag, a few times.

Going home from office, I had to let a train passed at Somerset because it's really really really full and I wasn't in a hurry anyway. Again at city hall, had to let a train passed, but the 2nd train wasn't better. I couldn't stand comfortably AT ALL until I alighted at Lakeside *double growl*

I was very tempted to alight at Tiong Bahru instead, but thinking of the crowded Tiong Bahru Plaza, plus the crowded train to Lakeside (yes, all the time, no matter what time it is), I braved myself to continue standing uncomfortably until Lakeside.

Had to buy Mr Bean's soya ice cream cone to soothe my feeling haha.. and it's now S$1.50 (was S$1.20) while the cup one is S$1.80 (was S$1.50).. :(

Summary: I'm definitely not going to rent a flat/room somewhere around here!! ugh

On a happier note, will be flying off to Phuket tomorrow morning!! yippee!!

It suddenly hit me.
Upbringing is not really the thing that shaped a person.
I've seen one who is older yet is still so childish, perhaps due to the easiness of one's life.
I've seen one who is relatively young, yet is so strong and mature.
Sometimes it really depends on what one's perception of life is (or the process of how one came to such perception)
