| A couple of things |
Today is Anita day, so TBS families around the world are volunteering somewhere. We went to ACRES, had vegetarian lunch, watched Anita's memorial video, did some labour job (washing tank, cleaning, painting, etc. depend on which group you were assigned to), ate ice potong (for free, TBS paid the auntie so she came with her van, had my fave mocha chip!), watched Earthlings DVD, which, I quote, is about:
"This is the single most powerful and informative movie about society's treatment of animals. A must see for anyone who cares enough to know"- Woody Harrelson Nining, was this the movie that made you stop eating meat?
It certainly creates awareness among us, but sadly, I doubt any of us is gonna convert to vegetarianism. I won't, but I am against animal cruelty (even though I'm not fond of animals either, I'm kinda indifferent and rather terrified of any creatures that can move). I am kinda a vegetarian today, except for the honey chicken bun for bfast :p, coz we had vegetarian lunch, and I bought beancurd on the way home, and mom happened to buy kangkong and french bean so that's all I had for dinner.

Someone is leaving her full-time job to become a full-time yoga instructor. I find it very cool. Not just the yoga part as I know nuts about yoga, but the part where someone is able to quit corporate world to do something that she is passionate about. I read an article at some women's magazine about a lady who quite her high-paying high-post job to teach yoga full-time, with like only 1/3 of her prevous income.
I certainly can't for now, but even if I can, I doubt I have the courage to do so. Plus, the more difficult thing is, I'm yet to find my passion!?! I find this very demoralizing sometimes. In my generation and my growing up environment, we're not nurtured in any other way than the proper education way (after senior high school it is definitely university, and very commonly followed by a master's or two. And the majors more often than not are in business, accountancy, engineering and more recently, IT). Totally not in any arts/creative way. IF (BIG IF HERE) I have kids, I wanna bring them up in almost a totally different way. Not just the education part. Anyway.

This morning mom went to visit her friend who had leukimia and was hospitalized in Singapore. When I reached home she was telling me about her visit and how the children cried when the priest was praying for them, etc. And not an hour later she told me her friend has passed away. Anita's memorial video had her daughter crying and telling us not to wait until tomorrow to tell your family/friends that you love them. So go, tell them you love them!! Indonesian families do not say "I love you" to each other. I only ever say them to (ex)boyfriends and of course now to hubby O (who is currently away having free dinner at Bugis).

Misconceptions by Singaporeans about Indonesians: 1. To the Chinese ones - that we're not Chinese but mixed, maybe because we don't speak Mandarin. Erm, 90% of my friends are pure Chinese. It's just that we were never taught Chinese because it was banned when we were growing up. Our parents/grandparents could only do so much to teach us but it was very hard when 90% of our time was in school where they taught in Indonesian. Plus they were not with us all the time, sometimes we were with maids who of course again, only speak Indonesians.
2. "You don't look like an Indonesian!" Erm, how are Indonesians supposed to look like anyway?
3. That Indonesians are all rich - yes, they are PLENTY of FILTHY RICH Indonesians, but NOT all. Duh.Labels: condolences, family, random, the body shop |

| it suddenly hit me |
what am i going to do in jakarta for more than a week without internet connection?? :o
OK, I might not have much time in between the 3 wedding receptions (plus the holy matrimony), searching for at least 2 gowns, visiting grandparents, meeting friends at least once(?), and shoppings (hee hee) but in the evening i sure have nothing to do with no TV in the room (even if there is, i dun watch local tv.. and they won't be showing the same seasons & episodes of all my english series *oh, i LUV LUV LUV desperate housewives, just watched the 1st of season 4*) we can't be going out till that late every day, rite! plus, jakarta is expensive! yeah some local brands are cheap but the quality is not there either
sigh... as usual, i dont enjoy going to jkt :( :( :( :( :( but this time is OK coz it's for Iyus & Alex's wedding! can't wait!Labels: Jakarta, travel plan |

| My 2 best gal friends are both getting hitched |
the last time i stayed in Jakarta, we were only in senior high school, so I've only seen a couple of invitation cards from my grandparents' or parents' friends' children's wedding. obviously cards in SG are not as nice due to the cost (erm not even 50% as nice?). here are the cards from my 2 best gal friends Iyus' card is maroon-brown-ish color, inside is pale pink. the "pin" at top left corner holds them together, so to open it we have to slide them sideways. first in english, then indonesian, then chinese, lastly the map to the hotel and a loose insert for the map to the church (for their holy matrimony) close up of the top mid of envelope and here is Karsil's card. she's always loved purple. this is light purple color (lilac?). inside.. english and indonesian. perhaps she has another version that is indonesian & chinese. close up of bottom left corner of envelope Labels: friendship, wedding |

| If... |
If I were in New York, I think I'd have a regular psych.
If I were to give birth within a month or so from now, I'd have a post-natal depression for sure.Labels: just mira |

| O's birthday |
Bought a very VERY last minute gift - a Braun buffel belt (another clichè, i know, but he needs it and he said he anyway didn't want anything material for this birthday hee hee) at Robinsons raffles city while waiting for O, we were going to Chijmes for his bday dinner.
We went to Hog's breath cafè at Chijmes for the 1st time (already been to holland v branch a couple of times). I think the quality is better at holland V. We shared a blackened prime rib - medium rare, of course, and full rack baby back ribs yummy too full to drink (wanted to order a bottle of red wine, luckily we didn't)
I asked a waitress whether they had birthday candle and they did, so I ordered the mississippi mud cake and asked them to bring after our meal. after our table was cleared, a waiter brought our cake and *gasp* no candle! and O was like, did we order this? and I was speechless and stared at the cake and at O and at the cake and mumbled "they were supposed to put a candle" after a couple of minutes we started eating the cake AND the waitress that I 1st approached came bringing the same cake with candle and a couple of staff singing happy birthday. so the kitchen made a mistake, we had 2 cakes and both were free hahaha.. (it's free for bday person)
Actual day, we went lunch at Soup Restaurant Jurong Point with my family, food is so-so, thought it was better previous few times. Had andersen's ice cream after lunch. was feeling cranky and weak, coz slept too much! slept again in the afternoon!

I didn't exactly bought a birthday cake for O, so today after work I made him strawberry tiramisu coz he likes strawberry. Easy peasy, recipe here. First attempt, O and bro like it. I should've put more coffee liquor though.
Erm I've been eating and eating and eating. i thought i gained 2-3kg coz the tummy is so big *blushed* but i "only" gained 1kg!! yippe!! tomorrow (later) going to Cafè Iguana with Jess and O (and Teresita and hubby?) maybe i drank too much beer that my tummy is so big! :( oh and my new hair-cut made my face even rounder! argh Labels: birthday, family, weekend/holiday |
