Made with Passion
Today I attended 2 hours of induction on company history and values.
This is the last of my many inductions as a new staff.

Below are the values of The Body Shop

Just wanna create more awareness. I myself have been a customer for some time, but I must say, I wasn't really aware of the full values and their meanings.

There is a charity arm, The Body Shop Foundation, and it also helps Children on the Edge.

I think it's really great.

Btw, we'll have a company volunteering day on 6 Jul (office will be closed), there'll be 2 official days per year (office will be closed). And 2-4 personal volunteering days (only those who volunteers won't be in the office, probably about 30-50%?)

I love Singapore
Hee hee *blushed*

I luv the upcoming developments, like Singapore flyers.
I luv the sales, like the annual Great Singapore Sale (GSS)
>> M)phosis is having 50-70% storewide until 3 Jun! But I went too late, sold out of slippers/sandals size 8 & I didn't find any nice tops/bottoms :(
>> Dorothy Perkins is having a 30-50% off selected items.
These are just 2 examples :p
I luv the food, I can't understand people who said Sg food are not nice. I gained lotsa weight here. Singaporean living overseas miss Sg food. *Right, Karen?*
I luv taking MRT train.
I luv the safety here, have taken cab alone past midnite without feeling worried.

Actually there're lotsa interesting places/things to do but we just don't.
I haven't even been to St. James power station and The Cannery.
*luckily I've been to One Rocherster Park as I blogged here*

Singapore arts festival is on again.

Come visit uniquely singapore hee hee :p

I HAVE TO SLEEP!!! I've been sleeping too late these days *go eye-bag, go away!*
*Wish me luck - will blog about it tomorrow or something*

Counting down to our short trip!
Yay! Our hotel reservation has been confirmed. Booked through Asia Rooms as it's much cheaper.
We'll be staying at Hotel Vila Ombak at Gili Trawangan, a small island on the north side of Lombok island.

We were considering Qunci Villas at Mangsit Senggigi (at Lombok island) as well, both are so nice! But Gili beaches are definitely nicer and cleaner.

I realized quite a few of Lombok hotels have outdoor shower, but no bathtub. Well, at such cheap prices, outdoor shower is good enough hee hee..

Erm I still don't know how to get to Gili Trawangan... I mean I've done some research, but it looks like long tail boat is the only choice, it takes 30-45 minutes >.< I'll definitely get sea-sick *sigh*.
The hotel quoted Rp 500.000/way to pick-up from hotel and then by speedboat (only take 7-10 min). But that's about S$90/way ler, too much! Bloody overpriced.
I'm asking the hotel for the cost if it's just the speedboat, coz taxi ride from airport to the port will only cost about Rp 100.000/way (less than S$20/way).

Catched up with ex-TTSPLians
Last night we (10 of us) went to Sinma Live Seafood restaurant for dinner. But O worked late so by the time we reached, most food are gone *sigh*
Jorene treated us...

Went to 1 Rochester Park to chill out after dinner. The place is soooo nice. But what a shame, SG weather just sucks. It's so damn humid!!!!

SH didn't wanna join us, thus left 9 of us. Among the 9, only 1 (Brenda) is still with TTSPL hahaha.

Actually 9 includes partners lar :p

We bumped into current TTSPL staff, a Jap guy (General Manager) and a local lady (Group Leader) hmmmm
I had this Chimay Rouge, Belgium beer. Luv it.

Yippeee, bought the Silk Air ticket just now hee hee
I haven't applied for leave, but it's only for 1-2 days so it should be OK :p

Now I must continue researching about hotels and which area to go.
Was thinking either Gili or Mangsit coz I found 2 nice hotels and quite cheap.

Hmmmm

aunt arrived with cousins (moved from Raffles the Plaza), met them downstairs
finally went for lunch at about 3.30 or 4pm!!! so hungry
then, went to mandarin shopping centre to meet sofi for mani+pedi

be in charge of the bus again, from church back to hotel
err what else??? rest at the hotel, accompany relatives
>> woke up at 6.30am, make-up, get ready
busy counting ppl to take bus, make sure everybody boarded the bus
didn't really have time to eat nor chit chat
ball of foot super painful coz walked here and there with the super high heels
busy making sure everybody boarded the bus again back to hotel
didnt take any pic as my camera was with O and HE DIDN'T TAKE PICS >.<

No shower after gym
EEEWWWWW not me OK!
After so many months joining Amore, I still can't get it!
Why do so many women choose not to shower after gym and just go home?
Well, I'm sure (I HOPE!) they live nearby, or they drive, BUT STILL!
I know not everybody is as sweaty as I am (pardon me, I sweat A LOT every single morning after walking from my flat to Lakeside MRT station - about 8 t0 10 minutes walk. in sleeveless or at most cap sleeve. rain or shine. other people wear long sleeve/jacket suite/cardigan/whatever AND not a single drop of sweat). But after gym (usually class), I was all red and sweats are all over (my super long hair is all wet, almost like after shampooing), err I'm not trying to be gross, but if I'm THAT sweaty, other ppl should be at least a bit sweaty, too, right??
Maybe they don't move as active as I am in the class (?)
Well, whatever, it's actually to my convenience, there's always an empty shower cubical hahaha

Tokyo Japanese Restaurant and Bar
I just had a dinner buffet there, with O's colleagues *isn't it so pathetic to be hanging out with O's colleagues lotsa time?*
**well, no way I'm hanging out with my colleagues after work while we don't even have lunch together**

I don't know why the name is "and Bar" while it's just a normal restaurant.
Probably because they serve sake??? (not included in the buffet).

Had lotsa sashimi (salmon, tuna, yellowtail and swordfish).
The rest of the food are so-so. No drink is included in the buffet. They only have ice cream for dessert, and mixed fruits.
I still prefer Kuishin Bo!! It's been quite long since I ate there hee hee. Apparently it's under renovation until 16th May (just found out when I googled it just now).

I have to go to the gym on Saturday!!!
Tiok will be having his bachelor night this Sat, so O will be joining. Thus, I'd better go to the gym.
I must go more often. Ellys, one of O's colleagues, goes to the gym every single day (yes, that's 7 days a week) and it's 4 hours on Saturdays and 3 hours on Sundays. Gosh..
I can see the muscles on the arms. wooo
Err well, her husband is currently working overseas thus she has lotsa free time.
hee

:(
O's been working late these days...
but today was the 2nd time I had lunch with O this week hee hee
and he dates me tomorrow evening, some Japanese buffet at Amara, with some of his colleagues. O knows how much I LOVE SASHIMI and Japanese food in general hee hee
*luv u babe*
**errm I'm supposed to go to "step workout" class tomorrow... haven't been to the gym this week**

~~~~~
I hate myself for feeling so insecure at times. I know I shouldn't blame it on the 'circumtances', it's just me. Well, I can't help it sometimes.
Do you watch the 9pm show on Channel 8 Mars vs Venus? I do. Well, it's true, women love to hear "I love you", women are complicated mwahahaha.
Sometimes just KNOWING is not enough *evil laughter*.
"You look so young"
I'm quite surprised that there are so many lady colleagues who said that to me when they found out that I'm married (then they thought that they were wrong, that I'm not as young as I looked). Usually I'll say: "I'm 25", and they'll say: "and you're married!"
Actually my point is at the 'look so young part' coz I always thought I look older than my age coz I'm quite tall and big (yeah yeah I know I'm chubby).
Sis' bachelorette party
11 of us went to Grand Hyatt for high-tea buffet yesterday afternoon, to celebrate sis' last few moments of singlehood. I bought her the white furry thingy on her heard, at the back is actually white ribbons but not seen on the pics. Remember I posted a pic like this before, sis with that red top and me with the blue dress? hahaha just happened that we wore the same outfit again!
I had many cups of tea:
  1. vanilla
  2. apricot
  3. vanilla again
  4. peppermint
  5. peppermint again
Mwahahaha vanilla & peppermint are very nice
Kinda have a sore throat this morning, must be the chocolate fondue, and the chocolate tart
Actually I thought I gained weight because of the way I eat this whole week (hey, a lady has a PMS period once a month, OK!), but I didn't! yay.
O and I had Sushi Tei for Friday dinner. I simply love the food there. This time we went to the Paragon outlet. The service was kinda lame. Oh the Hyatt's service was bad, too. Stupid waitresses. Argh.
Back to Sushi Tei dinner, we had to wait for like 40-45 minutes coz they (i'm sure) FORGOT our cha soba and grilled saba fish order (coz when I ordered the fish, the waitress said 15 minutes).
Anyway, we only asked for it after waiting for 30 minutes (coz busy eating our 15pcs sashimi hee hee plus some sushi), thus we had to wait for another 10-15 min.
Now back to Fri, after the high-tea I spent my S$100 Tangs voucher (wedding gift from grandaunt) on some items from Dressing Room and a white bag plus a small bottle of Shiraz. Then I went to Plaza Singapura to meet O, he had Carl's Jr for dinner.
I bought a cute white top from POA (People Of Asia) but the brand is Sugar Free, at the back is black ribbon.
WHAT THE HELL @(*@&$&*^@*(&
Just now I was like: hmm, I should visit HDB website and see whether there's any balloting result date so that I know when exactly it'll be out rather than just 'mid May'.
And then, suddenly there's a link called "Feb 2007 Balloting Exercise Results".
I couldn't believe it, rushed to get the HDB confirmation letter to get the Sales Ref no, key-ed in, and guess what, our number is F*CKING 2500. There's only 465 units available.
"GREATTTTT"
Holiday
I wanna go holidayyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!
Babe could you please confirm which period we can go :(
Hmm
If we're going to Australia in Oct, then we should go to Phuket for anniversary.
But suddenly I'm not so interested in Australia, can we go to Mauritius for anniversary instead? It's so much cheaper than Maldives... I know it might not be as nice, but I guess it'll do for now hee hee
Well, everything still depends on the ballot result anyway. Please please please come out soon
*surfed more about Mauritius just now* apparently it's not THAT much cheaper than Maldives, though most package will come with bfast and dinner, land & water sports are free
hmmmmmm
can't wait to go to holiday
abit pissed off about something at work
trying to explain to Iyus the difference between bikini & brazilian wax but she still doesn't get it hahaha *Iyus, please use Google once again*
thinking to go to Bali, too (I mean, either Phuket or Bali). But Phuket is so much cheaper!
good niteee
True Love
A Picture is Really Worth a Thousand Words
March 2007
by Ron Steinman
Look at this photograph by Nina Berman. Look carefully. Pause. Think. Realize you are seeing something unique, something rare. It is a photo of war. There is no combat in the picture. Look at the picture taken in a studio before the wedding of former Marine Sgt. Ty Ziegel and his fiancée Renee Kline that took place Oct. 7, 2006. In many ways it is a typical wedding day photo, except the image is less than what one might expect on a wedding day. The young bride is perfect in her beautiful wedding gown. She holds a lovely bouquet of flowers. The groom is, well, nearly perfect in his Marine dress blues, replete with war ribbons from his service in Iraq. But look closely at the photo. There is something wrong. Sgt. Ty Ziegel is horribly mutilated, a victim of a suicide car bomber in 2004 in Iraq. He was in recovery for 19 months at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas. Despite his wounds, he and his childhood sweetheart married in the face of what could be major problems in the future. Does the bride know what she is getting into? Look at her face. I see fear and shock. We cannot tell what Sgt. Ziegel is thinking because his face is unrecognizable. It is impossible to know what anyone thinks, especially in a photo, but do the bride and groom really know what the future holds?
"Wounded Marine Returns Home From Iraq to Marry" is the title of the photo. We need read nothing more. Nina Berman says she believes her picture "shows how war has crept its way into the most common phase of daily life." Her assessment is right.
No one can learn about war unless he or she understands its results. By that I mean, the casualties of war, especially from Iraq, where almost 96 percent of the wounded survive -- the highest number of wounded survivors of any previous war. News organizations, principally TV, sanitize what we see from Iraq, and especially what we see at home, meaning the men and women going through rehabilitation and how their condition will affect the rest of their lives. The end of February saw the return of Bob Woodruff of ABC News to reporting as well as hosting a moving and thorough hour-long special broadcast about those with serious brain injuries, of course, including himself. Woodruff says he will continue to report this story for ABC News. NBC News to its credit is doing a series called the "Wounds of War," a title also used occasionally by World News Tonight with Charles Gibson. Despite this flurry, there still are not enough of those stories, though many more are in print. When this stretch ends, we probably will not see many similar stories for some time.
That is why, of the many photos about Iraq, this one, of a seemingly normal wedding, stands out. It says more about the war than anything from combat does. The result of war, its effect on soldiers, in this case a badly wounded Marine and his road to what might be a normal life, is something we as a people must understand. Otherwise we will continue to repeat our mistakes. Otherwise, we might never know the horror of war.
Nina Berman made only one shot to get this photo. Originally, the picture was part of an assignment for People magazine. For reasons Berman does not know, it never made it into the magazine. Berman later entered the photo in the Portraits-Singles section of the World Press Photo Awards where it won first place. It has been in Paris Match, Stern and other magazines.
Interestingly, it has had enormous word of mouth response on the Internet where blogs and Web sites are featuring the photo. So far, the rough estimate is that there have been more than 250,000 views of Nina Berman's photo. There are surely more to come. We may never know the final number of people who will see it on the Internet, but the photo will continue to resonate. This is because we are looking at a profoundly sad photo that tells a story that so far has no ending. It is only the beginning of a very long journey.
